Advanced Vocal Recording elaborates upon the concepts and techniques that are discussed and demonstrated in the Vocal Recording course. This course provides students with the ability to understand the studio recording process, troubleshoot vocal chains, select the proper microphone for a vocal recording session, arrange background vocals, build a vocal recording studio, create a rough mix of vocal tracks and deliver files to clients and collaborators. Our founders and faculty will draw from their experience working on Dedicated (Mariah Carey & Nas), Blow (Beyoncé), and Please Me (Cardi B & Bruno Mars) to explain concepts. In addition, this course will include automation using GarageBand.
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Recognize microphones used for recording vocals
- Read a microphone’s frequency response chart
- Apply equalization and compression techniques
- Operate GarageBand during a recording session
- Oversee a vocal recording session
- Become comfortable singing in a recording studio
- Perform automation in GarageBand
- Mix vocal tracks over an instrumental bed
